General Feng Shui principles do apply to paintings as Feng Shui embedded paintings can contribute to the overall energy flow of Chi and the feeling of spaciousness to the environment. First and foremost, the ideal placement  or of the painting must be determined by referring to the bagua (energy map). Proper placement will yield the desired results. It is important to choose Feng Shui paintings based on the elements they depict within and the energetic frequencies it exudes.

Paintings and the Elements

Feng Shui painting should incorporates at least one of the five elements of Feng Shui as it will help to enhance the existing elemental energy within the environment. Likewise, elements depicted in paintings can either strengthen or weaken other elements using the cycles of construction and destruction.

  • The wood element is depicted by trees, driftwood or forest landscapes as well as painting on a wooden board.
  • The element if water is depicted in paintings containing water landscapes, rivers, waterfalls, lakes, or other liquids.
  • The element of fire is depicted in paintings of candles, fireplaces, the Sun or other fiery things subject.
  • The element of earth is depicted in paintings with landscapes of mountains, plants and crystals.
  • The element of metal depicted in paintings of things such as cars, coins, or silver grooming sets, etc.
